This 9-night, 10-day trip invites you to discover the best of Costa Rica, combining adventure experiences in unique volcanic landscapes with immersions in the local culture. From your arrival in San Jose, you will enjoy the comfort and tranquility of the Buena Vista Chic Hotel, which offers breathtaking views and an ideal environment to relax after your flight.

You will begin your exploration with a visit to the imposing Poas Volcano, famous for its immense active crater and panoramic views. Next, you will enter the region of La Fortuna, home of the iconic Arenal Volcano, where you will hike the lava flows from its historic 1968 eruption and enjoy the hot springs. In addition, you will experience the Vida Campesina Tour, where you will participate in traditional activities and enjoy an organic lunch.

The next destination will take you to the magical Rio Celeste Waterfall, a turquoise waterfall located in the Tenorio Volcano National Park, a true paradise for nature lovers. Afterwards, you will continue to the Rincón de la Vieja region, where you will explore its active fumaroles, volcanic mud baths and the impressive Oropéndola Waterfall. Finally, you will end your adventure in the Gulf of Papagayo, enjoying the tranquil beaches of Playa Hermosa.

Day 1

Arrival in San José

Day 2

Poas Volcano and Transfer to Arenal

  • Location: Poás Volcano and Arenal.
  • Activity: Visit to Poás Volcano National Park.

  • Includes: Lunch en route, entrance fee to the park.

Day 3

Arenal Volcano Hike

  • Activity: Hike along the lava flows of the 1968 Trail.

Day 4

Excursion to the Celeste River

  • Location: Tenorio Volcano.
  • Activity: Hike to the Celeste River Waterfall in the Tenorio Volcano National Park.

Day 5

Transfer to Rincón de la Vieja

  • Location: Rincón de la Vieja.
  • Lodging: Hacienda Guachipelín (2 nights).

Day 6

Hike to Rincón de la Vieja National Park

  • Activity: Guided hike along the Las Pailas trail, followed by a dip in the Oropéndola Waterfall.

Transfer to Golfo de Papagayo

We’d love it! Anyone getting married here must be 18 or older. Nonresidents need the following documents to get married here: original birth certificates, affidavit of single status, police record, valid passport and a divorce decree (if applicable). These documents must follow the authentication procedure before you bring them to Costa Rica.

Dogs and cats entering Costa Rica must have a health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian, endorsed by a veterinarian service. Yes, the water is potable in most of the country. We would only recommend bottled water for a few rural areas. Bring your reusable water bottle to decrease your footprint while you’re here. When starting your adventure for the day, fill up your bottle before you leave because refill stations may be a long trek to locate.

Travelers from the following countries must have received a yellow fever vaccination certificate: Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, The Gambia, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Bolivia, Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and the Republic of Guyana.

• Keep your belongings somewhere safe while enjoying the sea or leave them somewhere they can be watched.
• Always use reef-safe sunscreen to avoid sunburns.
• When possible, don’t swim on your own.
• Consult the authorities about the current beach conditions.
• Be aware of warning flags on the beach.
• Do not enter the ocean if you don’t know how to swim. If you’re surfing as a beginner, stay under the supervision of a qualified instructor.

The main difference is the amount of rain. It doesn’t rain as much in the cloud forest as it does in the rainforest. The species of flora and fauna may also differ.

Be sure to bring insect repellent, a raincoat with a hood and a comfortable pair of hiking boots.
